SUMMARY

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight follows the eponymous Arthurian hero in his travels and travails through England’s mythical past and his encounter with the iconic Green Knight. Among the festive revelry of Camelot’s heroic court the form of the Green Knight casts a grim and mysterious shadow, laying down a terrible trial for Gawain to face – one with deadly repercussions. The anonymously authored tale accesses the clouded world of chivalry and folktale, drawing on a wellspring of legend and romance to bring images of an exotic but unerringly familiar heritage which underpins the English cultural world. Set in traverse and featuring a troupe of specially designed puppets alongside the main cast, Cardboard Menagerie presents the world premiere of Simon Corble’s revised adaptation, transforming the O’Reilly as the audience traces a quest through shifting locales, valorous heroes and the occasional decapitation. Sir Gawain and the Green Knight promises to be a unique theatrical experience and reworking of the well known English tale.
