Don Pedro

Messina, Sicily, 1958. Members of Italy’s most notorious crime family are assembling at Leonato’s estate. The wasteland of post-war Italy is making way for the seductive ‘Dolce Vita’. Life has never been so good. The women are as beautiful as the men are dangerous; image and reputation are everything, style and superficial gratification take centre stage.

But this is Sicily. The grip of honour, patriarchy, gossip and familial ties certainly hasn’t loosened. Any slip-up can have very serious consequences indeed. The battle of the sexes has never been more explosive.

Shakespeare's comedy is re-imagined and re-fashioned by the best of Oxford University's theatrical talent; this production is not to be missed. For the first time in recent memory the Oxford University Dramatic Society has kindly been granted permission to perform in the Old Schools Quadrangle, ensuring it will be a truly unforgettable and unprecedented experience. Catch OUDS at home in Oxford before they leave for London, Tokyo and Guildford.

This annual international Shakespeare tour is now in its fifteenth year and takes place with the support and guidance of Thelma Holt and the Cameron Mackintosh Foundation.
