OTR - Hysteria

Mon 27th Aug – Sat 1st Sep 2012

“One of the most brilliantly original and entertaining new plays I have seen in years.”

Theatre Royal Bath Productions

1939. 82-year-old Sigmund Freud has fled from Nazi-occupied Austria to a Hampstead suburb to spend his dying days in peace. But when surrealist painter Salvador Dali unexpectedly turns up in his study, along with a young woman who finds it impossible to keep her clothes on, all hell breaks loose.

Winning the Evening Standard award for Best Comedy and the Writers’ Guild award for the Best Play in the West End, Hysteria is part broad farce, part case-history, and brings together two of the world’s greatest and most eccentric minds. Olivier Award-winning Antony Sher stars as Freud. One of the leading actors of his generation, Antony recently starred in Broken Glass in the West End and Travelling Light at the National Theatre. Completing the cast are Will Keen, Indira Varma and David Horovitch.

Writer and director Terry Johnson’s many credits include One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Hitchcock Blonde, Entertaining Mr Sloane, The Graduate and Dead Funny. He won the 2010 Tony Award for Best Director of a Musical for La Cage aux Folles.
