Set in Oxford in the late 1940s, Exon Productions' 'The Importance of Being Earnest', a trivial comedy for serious people, captures the creative vitality of Wilde's script. Algernon Montcrieff, the rogue with an idle penchant for inactivity, plays host to his friend Jack Worthing, a man of outwardly upright morals. But as Jack's straitlaced virtues being to unravel around the discovery of his alter-ego 'Ernest', both men prepare for a romantic rendezvous out in the country. A play for the summer term, sure to charm, cheer and delight, it will soon become evident that there are both too many and too few Ernests earnestly courting.
