SUMMARY

It’s 1939, and, as the rest of the world hurtles towards disaster, one hedonistic Mayfair crowd continue to live their lives as they always have: drinking, dancing and in denial. At the centre of this social scene is David, an aspiring historian and heavy drinker whose life is disrupted by the beautiful Helen. Determined to save him, she reveals too late the extent of David's indolence and his wife's undeclared love.

With finances and humanity on the brink of collapse, the drink continues to flow and the revellers continue to dance. Terrence Rattigan's often overlooked masterpiece 'After the Dance' offers a witty, subtle deconstruction of the debauched ‘20s generation and a heartbreaking exploration of love and repression, presented by University of Oxford Student Company 'Broken Lyre Productions'.
