Mary Shelley

Tue 29th May – Sat 2nd Jun 2012

“Daughter of Mary Wollstonecraft. Lover of Shelley. Author of Frankenstein...”

Shared Experience, Nottingham Playhouse and West Yorkshire Playhouse in association with Oxford Playhouse

Oxford Playhouse Resident Company Shared Experience brings to life the extraordinary tale of Mary Shelley - and how she came to write one of the greatest stories ever told, aged just 19.

The play explores Shelley's remarkable life; her controversial philosopher father William Godwin, her scandalous elopement aged 16 and what led her to write a novel, so radical in its ideology, that in 1817 she changed the literary landscape forever.

Shared Experience is renowned for bringing classics to the stage in bold, imaginative ways. For Mary Shelley it reunites with award-winning writer Helen Edmundson whose groundbreaking adaptations (Mill on the Floss, Coram Boy, Anna Karenina) have inspired generations of audiences.

Listed by the Telegraph and the Guardian as "one of the top ten regional shows to see in 2012", Mary Shelley is directed by Shared Experience's Artistic Director Polly Teale, who also directed The Glass Menagerie at the Playhouse in 2010.

Admission: £24.50(£21.50)
