SUMMARY

All the noble maidens are in love with Bunthorne, the fleshly poet, but he only has eyes for Patience, the simple milkmaid. When the men to whom they are betrothed, the 35th Dragoon Guards, return to the village to claim the ladies’ hands, they find themselves rebuffed and witness to an ecstatic outpouring of love. Whilst Bunthorne pursues Patience, she falls for her childhood sweetheart Grosvenor, an aesthetic poet, whose beauty is such that all the maidens transfer their affections to him. With so much rapture in the air, who will end up with whom...? Come see Gilbert and Sullivan’s famous comic opera, inspired by the Pre-Raphaelite movement and Oscar Wilde. Filled with heartache, humour and happy endings, it promises to leave you feeling "blithe and gay"!
